Nico Carrillo Predicts Head Kick Knockout in Kickboxing Debut at ONE Fight Night 46

The 27-year-old Scottish knockout machine faces promotional newcomer Zhou Jiaqiang in a featherweight kickboxing matchup at ONE Fight Night 46 on Friday, August 14.

It goes down in U.S. primetime live from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, broadcasting on Prime Video. And it is headlined by the ONE Women's Strawweight Muay Thai World Title fight between Stella Hemetsberger and Natalia Diachkova.

The kickboxing debut is part of a broader ambition for Carrillo, who has laid out an ambitious roadmap for the coming year that extends well beyond the featherweight Muay Thai division.

The transition from Muay Thai to kickboxing involves ruleset adjustments, but Carrillo has made clear that the most important element of his game travels perfectly between the two disciplines.

"The power remains. Small gloves or big gloves, my hands are my greatest tools. It's not going to be any different this time around. The power I bring is far more powerful than his," Carrillo stated.

His Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy and Hickman Brothers training environment for ONE Fight Night 46 has produced a 30-4 career record built on six ONE Championship finishes, and the killer instinct that has made him a fan favorite since his arrival in the promotion is not going to be switched off because the rule set has changed.

The Scottish titleholder has not offered a vague victory prediction at ONE FIght Night 46. He has named the round, the method, and the technique, putting his credibility firmly on the line in the most specific possible way.

"It's going to be the Nico show once more. This one will be done with a knockout. A finish in round two with a left head kick," he explained.

Carrillo's six ONE Championship finishes across his 7-1 promotional record give him the credibility to back that kind of specificity.

A left head kick knockout in the second round of his kickboxing debut against a promotional newcomer would be a statement performance that immediately sets the tone for his ambitions in the discipline.

The Zhou fight is a first step in a much larger plan. Carrillo has mapped out the next 12 months with the clarity of a fighter who knows exactly where he is heading and how he intends to get there.

"To be honest, I'd rather fight MMA. I wanna get this fight sorted, and then defend my belt in November or December, perhaps. And then I want to fight MMA in Qatar in March. I'm already a ONE World Champion, and the next obvious step is to become a two-sport World Champion – kickboxing or MMA alongside Muay Thai," he said.

Carrillo was elevated to undisputed ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion earlier this year after the divisional king vacated the title, completing a title journey that began with the interim championship.
