“Sub of the year right?”: Fans react to Casey O’Neill’s incredible UFC 331 armbar finish

The women's flyweight bout between Casey O'Neill and Eduarda Moura was much anticipated, as their rivalry heading into the fight had gotten heated, with Moura even calling it a fight that is personal for her. 

That showed in their showdown; the fight left MMA fans stunned at UFC 331 as O’Neill pulled off an insane submission after nearly being submitted by Mourna to get the victory.

The night at UFC 331 opened with Joanderson Brito's insane knockout victory over Giga Chikadze in the first round. Following that, it was time for the women's flyweight fighters to raise the bar, and they did. 

Mourna looked Incredible on her feet and on the ground; she nearly finished O’Neill with the Anaconda choke. However, the Australian defended it and bounced back. She launched the Brazilian into the air, found an opening to set up an inverted armbar, and finished the fight in the first round. 

Home of Fight posted the finishing sequence on their X post. The video went viral, sparking insane reactions from the MMA community. 

One fan praised O’Neill’s technique, writing, “Armbar out of nowhere. That was smooth af! Beautiful display of jujitsu” 

Another fan defended grappling in MMA, commenting, “Yet some of y'all criticise grappling. This s**t is beautiful man”

Fans were also stunned by how unusual the submission looked, adding, “Inverted helicopter armbar? In an MMA fight?! That's wild”

Another fan pointed out that some spectators may have missed one of the most exciting moments of the night, writing, “All those idiots who buy tickets & don’t show up until the main card missed out amazing fight/finish.”

The submission happened so quickly that another viewer admitted, “I literally took my eyes off the tv for a second and missed it. What a crazy sub.”

The finish was so impressive that one fan even suggested it could be a contender for the best submission of the year, commenting, “Gotta be sub of the year right?”

With the impressive submission victory, ‘king’ extended her win streak to three. She already has a name that he wants to face next to get closer to the title shot. 

Casey O’Neill calls for Maycee Barber fight after UFC 331 win

In her octagon interview, O'Neill acknowledged the inactivity in her career over the past year and stressed that she wants to move up the rankings, calling out Maycee Barber as her next challenge. 

“ I have one thing to say. I was out for a long time, from 2024 to 2026. I'm back, I'm making everybody know that this is my moment,  so that the fight I've been chasing for a really long time, I think it's time I climbed the ranks. Maycee Barber, the future is mine, let's go,” O'Neill said.
