UFC 328 will play host to one of the most anticipated grudge matches in promotional history, as current middleweight kingpin Khamzat Chimaev attempts to make the first defense of his strap against fan-favorite striker and previous champion Sean Strickland. In the co-main event, fellow newly-minted title-holder Joshua Van puts his throne on the line in an exciting bout with Japanese phenom Tatsuro Taira.

Following his loss to du Plessis in a runback at UFC 312, few could have believed that Strickland had the determination to bounce back into title contention. That was until UFC Fight Night 267 this past February, where he announced himself as the clear number one contender by starching the surging Anthony Hernandez. With an unorthodox fighting style that very few men have managed to decode, “Tarzan” may just shock the world for a second time to claim a second UFC championship.

Fighting a whopping four times in 2025, Van established himself as the breakout star in mixed martial arts by taking out multi-time defending flyweight incumbent Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 323. Seeking to make 2026 an even bigger year for himself, “The Fearless” will test himself against another young and promising name at UFC 328 in an effort to cement his place as a pound-for-pound great.

For almost four years, Taira has embarked on a steady and mostly dominant rise up the 125-lb rankings, with the only setback of his UFC tenure coming in the form of a close decision loss to Brandon Royval back in 2024. Learning from the mistakes of the past, the Blackbelt Japan product has produced two stoppage wins in a row, including a TKO victory over previous champion Brandon Moreno, the first of the Mexican’s professional career.
