UFC Commentator feels Conor McGregor Should Have fought Michael Chandler

Conor McGregor’s return has been one of the biggest points of discussion. For all these years, fans waited to see ‘Mystic Mac’ come back inside the octagon. Following several failed attempts, McGregor finally made the walkout to the octagon where he was up against Max Holloway. According to UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, the Irish star should have fought with a different opponent. 

Joe Rogan Feels Michael Chandler was Better Opponent for McGregor

For the longest time, UFC was determined that Chandler would be fighting the former double champion once he came back. However, when ‘The Notorious’ failed to turn up last year, Chandler decided to move on and had a series of bouts against Charles Oliveira, Paddy Pimblett, and Mauricio Ruffy. This prompted Dana White and co. to change their plans and bring in Max Holloway instead. 

This is where Rogan differs. He thinks that Chandler would still have been the perfect fight for McGregor to kick things off in the UFC following his hiatus. Rogan stated, “Look, if Conor McGregor really does come back a year from now, I think he wants to fight Max Holloway. 'I've got to finish what I've started!' But really, Michael Chandler was the right fight for him anyway."

The fight was expected to be a major hit. Unfortunately, things did not turn out as expected. 

What Happened in Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway Fight?

McGregor took on Holloway in the main event of UFC 329. The Irish fighter walked out to a big pop from the crowd. But as the crowd anticipated a cracker of a fight between the two strikers, things suddenly went downhill. The former UFC two-division champion tried to start big as he attempted a flying knee first up. 

Sadly, McGregor messed up the landing, which apparently hurt his knees. As he went back up, the former champion tried to push through his pain, but he kept falling down. When the referee saw that ‘The Notorious’ was unable to walk, he immediately called off the fight at the 1:09 mark.
