Salahdine Parnasse Proves He Belongs in UFC with Paris KO!

Salahdine Parnasse (24-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC), a former KSW Featherweight and Lightweight Champion, joined the UFC's active roster on July 24. At the time of the signing, Parnasse was more than two months removed from fighting on MVP MMA 1 in Inglewood, CA at The Forum.

That May weekend, he drew the assignment of Kenny Cross (17-5 MMA) on the Netflix event, scoring a first-round knockout with punches to the body. While Parnasse easily dispatched Cross in The Golden State, a tougher challenge awaited the debutante in his freshman UFC appearance.

Subsequent to the signing, Salahdine Parnasse was booked to fight No. 10 contender Dan Hooker (24-15 MMA, 15-11 UFC) for the main event of UFC Paris inside Accor Arena. In the run-up to UFC Paris, Dan Hooker admitted that he wasn't fully locked in for his last few contests.

Salahdine Parnasse with Excellent First Impression in UFC Paris

As far as Salahdine Parnasse was concerned heading into UFC Paris, the question was a simple one of how would he fare in his first appearance in MMA's No. 1 promotion. Although the UFC Paris main event was slated to be a five-round fight at five minutes per round to close the show, Parnasse checked all the boxes on his questionnaire early. 

After the command to fight was given by referee Marc Goddard, Parnasse and Hooker stalked one another and threw some feints before the two traded leg kicks. The kicking game would tell the tale of the fight, including how it ended.

Midway through the opening round, Parnasse landed a kick to the body, wobbling Hooker. The debutante wasted no time going in for the kill by scoring a kick to the head and a flurry of punches before referee Marc Goddard called a halt to the proceedings. Time of the stoppage: Two minutes and 35 seconds into the fight.

"World-class performance from Salahdine Parnasse, and he's taking it all in!," exclaimed John Gooden, who was working UFC Paris as the blow-by-blow commentator.

Salahdine Parnasse Talks to "The Count"

Following the victory, Salahdine Parnasse was interviewed by UFC Hall of Fame enshrinee Michael Bisping. During the post-fight interview, Parnasse mentioned that he was sure he'd win the UFC Paris main event inside the distance on Saturday night.

"I knew I was going to finish the fight," Parnasse said, through his translator. "I finish all my fights by KO, so I knew I was going to come in here and do exactly that.

Later in the interview with Bisping, Parnasse, nicknamed "Lion of Atlas," challenged a UFC luminary at 155 lbs.

"I'm waiting for the next fight, top-5," he said. "My dream fight is Max Holloway." The challenge to Holloway was met with cheers from the crowd inside Accor Arena in Paris.

Salahdine Parnasse, Your Table is Ready

Going into UFC Paris on Saturday night, Salahdine Parnasse had all the pressure in the world ahead of his anticipated promotional debut. It's not every day that a fighter is asked to compete against a top-10 opponent for his first appearance in the promotion.

Salahdine Parnasse met the challenge, and then some, this weekend against Dan Hooker. In so doing, he pocketed a $100,000 (USD) cash advance for the Performance of the Night. When the new UFC rankings are released at the start of the next work week, don't be surprised if Parnasse has a number next to his name.

He earned his chance to call out a big name with his victory, but he's also earned a seat at the table. Salahdine Parnasse will be in the UFC for some time to come after the events of Saturday night.
