UFC Oklahoma City Staff Picks: Former Champions Collide
UFC Oklahoma City takes place tomorrow night. Who did our staff pick to win?
UFC Oklahoma City will become the epicenter of top-level MMA action this Saturday. In the main event, former champions collide, with Dricus du Plessis crossing paths with Kamaru Usman. In the penultimate matchup of the night, middleweight contenders Jared Cannonier and Christian Leroy Duncan square off.
UFC Oklahoma City Main Event
Losing his championship at UFC 319 last August, du Plessis found himself on the wrong end of a dominant unamoiuus decision to European superstar Khamzat Chimaev. After nearly a year off from the Octagon, “Stillknocks” is looking to show he is a completely different fighter than he was in his previous bout.
Following a disappointing three-fight skid spanning almost three years, Usman jumped back into the win column last summer with a masterclass performance over Joaquin Buckley. Seemingly content with his time at 170-lb, “The Nigerian Nightmare” is heading back up to middleweight for a second time to embark on another warpath toward UFC gold, beginning with the UFC Oklahoma City main event.
UFC Oklahoma City Co-Main Event
Losing three of his last four scraps to the newer wave of younger, promising 185-lb names, Cannonier has recently fallen on hard times in the years following his title shot against Israel Adesanya in 2022. However, with the belt still gleaming in his sights, “Tha Killa Gorilla” continues to push himself forward in his pursuit of mixed martial arts greatness.
Joining the promotion in 2023, previous Cage Warriors middleweight king Duncan has proven to be a top-notch oncoming finisher, owning impressive knockout wins over Duško Todorović, Eryk Anders, and Marco Tulio. Preparing to tussle with the most dangerous opponent of his career, “CLD” is seeking to show he has what it takes to push past the upper echelon of the weight class.
More Bouts On the UFC Oklahoma City Main Card
Rounding out the main card, Chase Hooper draws Mitch Ramirez. Then, Tabatha Ricci locks horns with Fatima Kline. Finally, Tommy McMillen opens the show in an entertaining scrap with Alberto Montes.
