Ultimate Fighter Season 33 Episode 4: Weight Miss Leads To Bloody Scrap

An unfortunate mess up on the scales results in one welterweight fighter receiving a sizable payday and a blood-soaked quarterfinal victory during the latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter.

Andreeas Binder Nearly Derails Anticipated Clash on The Ultimate Fighter

For the fourth chapter of The Ultimate Fighter Season 33, 170-lb competitors Jeff Creighton and Andreeas Binder squared off in the second match of their bracket. Recognized for their lengthy backgrounds on the regional scene, both men came into their clash with a hefty amount of top-level experience, possessing over ten bouts each heading into this season of The Ultimate Fighter

Building off a highly successful amateur run, which included capturing four championships across four different promotions, Binder has proved himself a national talent in Ireland, racking up an 10-2 professional record. He also stands as one of the most accredited Judo practitioners in his country, holding a second degree black belt in the art.

On the opposite side of the world, Jeff Creighton has begun to craft a place for himself  amongst the best American mixed martial arts fighters not signed to a major promotion going into The Ultimate Fighter. Losing his debut as a professional back in 2018, “Jazzy” would proceed to embark on a warpath over the next seven years, losing just once more to future UFC competitor Max Rohskopf while scoring and defending the A-1 Championship welterweight strap.

The Ultimate Fighter’s Chael Sonnen Offers Five Figures for Fight to Proceed

For a whole week, Ultimate Fighter fans waited, eager for the chance to watch these strong prospects tear into one another for their opportunity at making it to the big time. However, tragedy struck early in the episode when Binder was unable to make weight for his encounter with Creighton, missing the mark by a whopping six pounds. Fortunately, for Binder, his coach, Chael Sonnen, was able to convince his opponent to accept the contest despite the weight discrepancy, offering Creighton $12,500 of his own money to keep the fight alive, which the American accepted.

To give his man a better chance to thrive in the grappling department, Team Sonnen brought in previous tournament winner Matt Serra to help elevate their fighter’s Jiu-Jitsu skill set. Triumphing on the show nearly 20 years prior, Serra notably became The Ultimate Fighter Season 4 champion before famously going on to dethrone welterweight juggernaut Georges St-Pierre.

Creighton Brutalizes Binder After Bloody, Dominant Showing on The Ultimate Fighter

Forgoing the feel out process, the two 170-lb sluggers went straight to launching power blows at each other, with Binder getting the better of Creighton in the early goings of the scrap. By the end of the first round, though, “Jazzy” split “Judoka” wide open with an elbow that began to stream blood down Binder’s head almost immediately. Taking his adversary to the ground in the second, Creighton nearly ended the bout after achieving top mount after flattening out Binder. He then took the Irishman’s back and pelted his cut with punches, resulting in both fighter’s being positively soaked in crimson. Taking the round convincingly, Creighton earned the unanimous decision to advance to the semifinals.
