Lightweights headline this week’s UFC main event as MMASucka brings you live UFC Vegas 49 results throughout the day. UFC Vegas 49’s main event was originally a lightweight fight between Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush. After Dariush was forced to withdraw less than two weeks ago, Bobby Green stepped in to save the main event as he and Makhachev face off in a 160-pound catchweight fight.
UFC Vegas 49 Results – Main Event
Islam Makhachev is owner to one of the longer win streaks in the lightweight division as he comes into his fight against Green with nine straight wins behind him. In his UFC career, and career overall, he has only lost one time. That loss occurred in his second UFC appearance when he suffered a first round knockout loss to Adriano Martins at UFC 192. Since then, he has won nine straight fights as he climbs his way towards a title shot, which should come if he defeats Green for his tenth straight victory. After not appearing once during 2020, Makhachev fought three times in 2021 as he extended his win streak from six to nine that year. All three of those wins in 2021 were by submission as the first of them was a third round arm triangle submission over Drew Dober at UFC 259. Following that win was a fourth round rear naked choke win over Thiago Moises in Makhachev’s first main event at UFC Vegas 31. In his most recent win, he picked up his third straight submission to improve his win streak to nine with a kimura win over Dan Hooker at UFC 267.
As for Green, in his last four outings, he has compiled a record of 2-2 having won his last two straight. Green had a solid year in 2020 with three straight wins to kick things off, but his last fight that year resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Moises at UFC Fight Night 181. He would end up losing his next fight, making his losing streak two in a row after another unanimous decision loss, this time against Rafael Fiziev. Since dropping those two fights, Green has won his last two straight. Following the loss to Fiziev, Green went on to finish Al Iaquinta by first round TKO just a few months later. Green’s most recent fight took place just a couple weeks ago at UFC 271 when he defeated Nasrat Haqparast by unanimous decision to improve his streak to two in a row. Come Saturday, Green will look to pull off a huge upset that could put him in a good position for a title shot.
UFC Vegas 49 Results – Co-Main Event
In Saturday night’s co-main event, middleweight fighters Misha Cirkunov and Wellington Turman face off. Cirkunov will be entering the fight coming off two appearances in 2021. Unfortunately, he lost both appearances, the first of them being a first round TKO loss to Ryan Spann early in the year at UFC Vegas 21. His next appearance in 2021 was against Krzysztof Jotko at UFC Vegas 38. In that fight, Cirkunov lost to Jotko by split decision. Cirkunov hopes to bounce back with a better start to his 2022 as he looks for a win against Turman.
For Turman, he also appeared two times during 2021 however he put together a record of 1-1 over those fights. Prior to those fights, Turman suffered a knockout loss to Andrew Sanchez in the last half of 2020. After that, he had two more fights scheduled, one for the late months of 2020 and one for the early months of 2021, however he was forced to pull out of both of those fights due to illnesses. His first appearance in 2021 happened in June when he suffered a first round knockout loss to Bruno Silva at UFC Vegas 29. Since then, in his most recent fight, Turman picked up a win at the end of the summer with a split decision win over Sam Alvey at UFC Vegas 35.
UFC Vegas 49 Results – Main Card
Kicking off UFC Vegas 49’s main card will be a middleweight fight between Armen Petrosyan and Gregory Rodrigues. Petrosyan will be making his UFC debut after a successful outing on last year’s run of Dana White‘s Contender Series. In that fight he finished Kaloyan Kolev by knockout in the first round from a head kick. As for his opponent, Rodrigues, he will be making his third appearance in the UFC after going 2-0 in his last two fights. The first of those was a UD win over Dusko Todorovic at UFC Vegas 28, followed by a knockout win over Jun Yong Park at UFC Vegas 41.
After that fight will be a lightweight matchup between Arman Tsarukyan and Joel Alvarez. After losing in his UFC debut, Tsarukyan has won his last four straight since. In his two fights during 2021, Tsarukyan first defeated Matt Frevola by UD at UFC 257, followed by a first round TKO win in his most recent fight against Christos Giagos at UFC Vegas 37. Just like Tsarukyan, Alvarez also lost his UFC debut and since then has won his last four straight. He appeared just once during 2021 when he defeated Thiago Moises by first round TKO at UFC Vegas 42 for his fourth straight win.
Finally, before UFC Vegas 49’s co-main event, there will be a matchup in the women’s flyweight division between Ji Yeon Kim and Priscila Cachoeira. Kim will be entering the fight with a record of 0-2 in her last two years of competition. During her only appearance of 2019, Kim lost to Alexa Grasso by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 175. After that, she lost her second straight fight by unanimous decision in her most recent outing against Molly McCann at UFC Vegas 36. Cachoeira will be entering the fight with a 1-1 record during her 2021. To start that year off, she won he second straight fight with a second round TKO win over Gina Mazany at UFC 262. In her most recent fight, her win streak was snapped after losing to Gillian Robertson by first round submission at UFC 269.
