“A Win Over Diego Lopes Definitely Earns Me a Title Shot”: Charles Oliveira Makes His Case

The former lightweight champion believes his fight with Diego Lopes is a title eliminator.
Charles Oliveira will defend his BMF title against the former bantamweight, who is set to make his lightweight debut at UFC 335 in December.
The Brazilian is riding a two-fight winning streak and stands at No.3 in the division. Considering his run, Oliveira believes victory over Lopes will put him in line for a title shot next.
Charles Oliveira Sees a Path to UFC Gold
Charles Oliveira lost his lightweight title against Ilia Topuria in 2025. Since then, he has racked up two wins, against Max Holloway and Mateusz Gamrot.
In an interview with Laerte Viana, ‘Do Bronx’ made it clear that a third consecutive win should allow him to leapfrog the highly touted contender Arman Tsarukyan in the title race. Oliveira believes he deserves that opportunity because his fights attract more eyeballs.
"I think fights for the title, but Charles Oliveira sells a lot. A win over Diego Lopes definitely earns me a title shot. But there are several scenarios. If Justin retires, Charles Oliveira definitely fights for the title against Tsarukyan, the number two. If I win this fight, they'll have fought a little earlier, and I'll have fought later. My fight will be fresher in people's minds when they're looking for someone to fight at the beginning of the year," Oliveira said.
Newly crowned champion Justin Gaethje has yet to decide whether he will return to the Octagon or retire after reaching the top. However, he has already named the opponent he wants to face next.
Justin Gaethje’s Next Fight
‘The Highlight’ has made it clear that Arman Tsarukyan has done enough to earn a title shot, with six consecutive wins to his name.
Even UFC president Dana White believes Tsarukyan deserves a shot at the title. However, no official announcement has been made regarding the matchup.
The lightweight division is currently one of the most active in the promotion, with several contenders, including Paddy Pimblett, believing they have done enough to earn a title shot.
As a result, it is difficult to predict who will get the next opportunity. Ultimately, the decision rests with the champion and the UFC.
