In the first of what can be considered UFC 181’s dual main events, Anthony Pettis defended his Lightweight Title against former Strikeforce 155 lbs. kingpin Gilbert Melendez. “El Nino” came in with what seemed like the perfect gameplan, dominating the first round with close-range boxing and wrestling. However, the wrestling would prove to be his downfall in round 2, as “Showtime” was able to get an arm around Melendez’ neck during a takedown attempt and secure a fight-ending guillotine choke.
