Daniel Cormier believes there is a weight class that is best suited for Alex Pereira, where he can still carry all his power without having to struggle to make weight.

When a fighter possesses the kind of terrifying, one-punch knockout power that Alex Pereira carries in his hands, finding the right home on the scale can make all the difference. While the former multi-division GLORY kickboxing star has explored options across multiple divisions, Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier believes he knows the exact division where "Poatan" reigns supreme.

According to Cormier, light heavyweight isn't just a comfortable stopping point for the Brazilian power-puncher; it's the ultimate environment to maximize his lethal skill set.

“I believe that Pereira should fight at 205. I think that’s the sweet spot for Alex Pereira,” Cormier explained. “I think heavyweight is big, and 185 is killing him to make weight. 205 lbs is the sweet spot where he can ultimately max out his power.”

Finding the Sweet Spot for Knockout Power

Cormier's breakdown carries serious weight considering he held UFC titles at both light heavyweight and heavyweight. Pereira initially stormed into the promotion at middleweight, cutting massive amounts of weight to hit the 185-pound limit before snatching the belt from Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. However, those grueling weight cuts visibly drained his endurance and recovery.

Since stepping up to 205 pounds, Pereira has looked like an absolute force inside the Octagon. He captured the vacant light heavyweight crown with a second-round stoppage of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 and went on a tear, defending his throne with devastating knockouts over top contenders.

While Pereira has already tested the waters at heavyweight, Cormier firmly believes "Poatan" is at his absolute best when anchored at 205 pounds. Grappling against naturally massive heavyweights presents steep physical mismatches, whereas light heavyweight lets Pereira retain his blistering speed, terrifying left hook, and structural power without surrendering a huge size advantage.

At 205 pounds, Pereira remains one of the most feared strikers in combat sports history, and DC insists that is where his long-term home should stay.
