Alex Pereira is edging closer to his UFC return, but the announcement of his next fight is taking a route nobody saw coming.

Alex Pereira has not fought since his heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250 in June, where he suffered a second-round TKO loss. Since then, his next move has remained under wraps as he waits for his return to the division.

That wait now comes with an unusual condition from Dana White. The UFC CEO has agreed to reveal Pereira’s next opponent on Nina-Marie Daniele’s KICK stream, but only if her Instagram post reaches 25,000 comments.

The Reveal Came With a Catch

The unusual setup began when Daniele asked White how many comments it would take for him to announce Pereira’s next fight on her stream.

“Let’s get 25,000,” White replied. Daniele then confirmed the number with him, asking if he would announce Saturday’s broadcast in Salt Lake City. White said yes.

Pereira’s next bout has been a talking point since his heavyweight debut ended with the loss to Gane. The Brazilian had wanted another shot at the title, but Gane is now scheduled to defend against Josh Hokit at UFC 334 on Nov. 14.

That leaves Pereira waiting for his next assignment, with White now choosing an unusual way to reveal it.

Pereira Has Called What’s Coming a “Big Challenge”

Pereira added another piece to the buildup before White’s announcement. In a Thursday Instagram story, the former two-division champion teased news about his next fight and described what is coming as a “big challenge.”

“It’s coming. Good news, that’s right, a big challenge. Like I told you, if I hadn’t taken risks in all my fights I wouldn’t be who I am today.”

Pereira did not name an opponent, and the UFC has not confirmed one either. For now, the only clear detail is that the wait should end Saturday, when White is expected to make the announcement on Daniele’s KICK stream.
