Aljamain Sterling has doubled down on his callout of Jean Silva and targets a December No. 1 contender fight.

UFC Noche ended on a high note, with credit going to  Jean Silva, who submitted Jose Delgado in the third round as the event headliner; it was the only fight on the Main card that didn't need a judges' scorecard to decide the winner.

Following the event, Aljamain Sterling wasted no time calling his shot to fight Silva for a potential number one contender fight for the UFC featherweight gold. He has recently doubled down on the callout.

Aljamain Sterling calls for December fight with Jean Silva

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Sterling called for a December showdown while making it clear that he wants to give Silva enough time to recover from his UFC Noche outing.

“December, run that sh*t, run that sh*t. I wanna give him the fair opportunity to heal, be ready, be the best version of himself. Let’s run this sh*t for December, and see who’s the clear cut number one contender.”

Silva has long been in the title mix. He missed the opportunity when he fought Diego Lopes last year. He was knocked out in the second round, and Lopes then went on to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title.

Since then, ‘Lord’ secured a dominant decision victory over top-ranked featherweight Arnold Allen, and now, with a submission victory over Delgado, he has likely secured his next title shot.

That said, Sterling is also demanding a title shot following his victory over Youssef Zalal. However, it’s highly unlikely that he will get the next opportunity. He also may not get the chance to face Silva in a potential No. 1 contender fight, as the Brazilian is highly likely to fight the winner of the featherweight title bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev at UFC 333.

The former bantamweight champion is 3-1 since moving to featherweight. He needs to win one or two fights to cement himself next for the title.

Jean Silva takes shot at Aljamain Sterling following his callout

In his interaction with Full Send MMA backstage after securing a win at UFC Noche, Silva was asked about his thoughts on Sterling calling him out for a potential title eliminator bout.

'Lord' disapproved of the idea and took a verbal jab at ‘Funk Master,' highlighting the difference in their careers.

“Aljo you’re soft, you say you don’t want beef with me but here you are posting. I’ve done in three years what you didn’t do in 5,” Silva said via translator.
