Heavyweight prospect looks to fight as soon as possible: Jovan Leka speaks about his return to octagon

After a historic event in the capital of Serbia, some fighters proved to the MMA world that they belong in the world's best promotion. One of them is a heavyweight contender Jovan Leka. After an impressive TKO win over Alexander Poppeck, Leka is looking to return as soon as possible to continue his climb on the rankings.

Jovan Leka Stated UFC Offered Him Fight but He Had to Decline

In an interview with "MMA Respect," Serbian media covering MMA, Leka spoke about a new opponent that the UFC presented to him and his team.

"We got the offer really quick. The opponent in question is a guy from the top 15, which really suits me well stylistically; we were really looking for a fight with him to be booked. However, there is no rush. The thing is I have some private things that cannot be postponed, and the fight was supposed to happen on the exact same date as that."

Jovan assured the UFC that he is ready to fight anytime that they present an opportunity.

"I told them, Give me a fight whenever. As long as I am healthy, I want to fight constantly. I improve every day, and the fight I am talking about will just be delayed a bit."

Leka never mentioned who he was talking about, so we can just speculate. However, we will probably find out soon, since he is expect to return late Nov. or beginning of Dec.

Serbian Opens up About Fighting Contenders From the Balkans

After being added to the UFC roster, Leka is now the fourth heavyweight from the Balkans. Apart from him, Aleksandar Rakić, Ante Delija, and Brando Peričić are currently representing Serbia and Croatia in the heavyweight division.

When asked about fighting some of them, this is what he had to say.

"That's a hard question. One I can guarantee that I would never fight is Aleksandar. I hope the UFC never puts me in such an unpleasant situation that I have to fight any of them. However, I don't want to say I wouldn't fight them since they might say that they would fight me. As for Ante, he is someone that I followed throughout his career, and he is someone I look up to. He is really badass; I personally wouldn't want for that fight to happen. Brando, I really don't know much; no offense, but he isn't particularly likable to me."

After everything is said, the UFC has the final say in everything. As for Jovan, he can just wait to see what's next for him as he is building himself as one of the biggest stars in Serbian MMA.
