The bantamweight star says he is doing well and recovering, and thanked fans around the world for their support after an unusual fight ending.

Raoni Barcelos suffered a catastrophic end to his fight last week against Raul Rosas Jr. after he went limp on the canvas during a takedown in the final round of the fight.

At UFC Vegas 121, the 31-year-old was leading on all three judges’ scorecards. Unfortunately, Barcelos went limp without absorbing any strikes, and Herd Dean waved off the fight, handing Rosas a TKO victory. Now, more than a week after the incident, Barcelos spoke with the fans.

Raoni Barcelos Shares Health Update

Following the incident, Rani Barcelos was stretchered out of the Meta Apex in Las Vegas and transported to a Level 1 trauma centre.

Now, in an Instagram video he posted, Barcelos said, “Hey guys, how's it going? I'm here to give you some first-hand news, to say that everything's fine, I'm doing well, I'm recovering more every day. Thank you for all the prayers, all the vibes, energetically speaking, the positivity you've sent my way. I think that's what's most important: this affection, the messages, everything I've received this week."

The veteran bantamweight fighter further confirmed that he is still in the United States and awaiting further results of his medical examinations. "I'm still here in the United States for the process of exams, and waiting for when they'll be ready, so I need this time here. But I'll keep you posted on everything," Barcelos added.

What Happened at UFC Vegas 121?

Barcelos and Rosas Jr. went to war with each other in the main event. Interestingly, the veteran was outworking the 21-year-old.

However, in the fifth round, when Rosas took Barcelos down with a takedown, the latter went limp. Rosas, in a display of true sportsmanship, stopped attacking as soon as he recognised the situation.

Barcelos dominated 39-37 but ultimately lost. However, the cause remains unconfirmed. Also, Barcelos didn’t reveal the reason behind the incident.

He was discharged from the hospital three days after the fight. His full recovery and future inside the cage remain unknown, but for now, the fighter himself has provided the most important update.
