Shavkat Rakhmonov Reflects on Importance of Managing Finances Wisely

Reaching the elite level in sports is in itself a difficult task. But what is even more difficult is to keep a check on the finances when money comes in thick and fast. We have seen examples like Mike Tyson, who got it all and then lost almost everything. Thus, for Shavkat Rakhmonov, spending money wisely is one of the biggest lessons of his life. 

Shavkat Rakhmonov Details How he Avoided Financial Difficulties 

The Kazakh suffered some serious complications with his knees following his fight against Ian Garry. It has been 21 months since ‘Nomad’ last walked out to the UFC Octagon. Such a long period of inactivity could have brought in some significant financial difficulties. But according to Rakhmonov, he managed to master the art of spending wisely. 

The 31-year-old fighter said, “I acted very wisely in this regard. You have to manage your money carefully; if you don't act wisely, you'll end up losing everything.”

He further added, “Having grown up in poverty, I understand the value of money very well. I can't spend money recklessly. I'm always trying to act wisely so that this money earns me even more money. I'm making a good amount of money from various sources and jobs, and I feel like it's going to multiply. I know how to work, trade, buy and sell things, and everything is going well for me."

Rakhmonov will probably need the rest of 2026 to recover fully. But he seems to be aiming for a title fight following his comeback. 

Will Shavkat Rakhmonov Get Title Shot After his Return?

Prior to his prolonged absence, Rakhmonov was a top star. He also got a date with Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title fight before the bout got cancelled. Now, trying to gain back all the lost ground, Rakhmonov wants to fight Islam Makhachev next. Despite citing the Dagestani as a ‘tough’ challenge, Rakhmonov is confident about his victory. 

But his road to a championship fight might not be easy. Currently, Makhachev will face either Carlos Prates or Michael Morales next, ahead of Ramadan 2027. And by this time, Rakhmonov is expected to return. Thus, a title fight straightaway looks unlikely, and the 31-year-old might have to wait!
