Tony Ferguson Secures First Misfits Boxing Middleweight Title Defense With a Dominant Performance

Tony Ferguson seems to have regained his winning form after transitioning to the Misfits Boxing ring from the octagon. Ferguson stepped into the ring for his first Misfits Boxing middleweight title defense against Mahmoud Sebie on September 26. The former UFC lightweight scored a clinical second-round TKO to prove his might even at 42.

Tony Ferguson Clinched Victory Despite Getting Knocked Down Once

Ferguson started the fight on a positive note with a high volume of strikes. 'El Cucuy' also targeted Sebie's midsection at regular intervals and found success in them. Sebie tried to establish his jab, but Ferguson's volume striking clearly earned him the upper hand in the initial minutes of their fight.

However, Sebie's heavy-handedness earned him a major advantage as he knocked Ferguson down with a left hook with just over a minute left in the first round. Ferguson made a strong comeback to land several strong shots of his own.

Nevertheless, a shocking incident happened with just ten seconds left in the first round. Sebie went back to the ropes and dropped his guard completely, which allowed Ferguson to land a flush combination that knocked him down. He recovered in time, and the fight went into the second round.

Sebie started the second round with a lot of fire and also pressed Ferguson to the corner shortly to land several strikes. But the combination took a significant toll on his cardio, which allowed Ferguson to find openings and assert his dominance. 

In the latter half of the round's second minute, Ferguson trapped Sebie in a corner and unleashed a barrage of thudding strikes. Sensing a lack of response from the former PFL fighter, the referee stepped in and called an end to the fight, resulting in Ferguson's first successful middleweight title  

   

During his post-fight interview, Ferguson revealed how focusing on the fight had been extremely hard for him due to the death of his mother in August this year.

He said, "This week was different than the fights I've been in, the UFC, boxing, whatever the fu*k it is, my mom had always been there, so this time was a little bit different." However, Ferguson also credited all the excitement from fans for filling that "void."

With Ferguson stating he's ready to "fight anybody" next, it will be intersting to see who stands across from him the next time he steps inside the ring.
