The Maximum Fighting Championship have added welterweight Gilbert Smith to their roster.

According to Smith’s official Facebook page he has signed a three-fight deal.

Smith (7-2) was a contestant on Season 17 of the Ultimate Fighter and lost in the first round to Luke Barnatt via flying knee. He had an opportunity to fight in the finale, but fell short to Bubba McDaniel. Since then he has won two in a row on the regional scene.

MMASucka.com spoke with Smith about his thoughts on joining the Canadian promotion.

I am very honored to represent the US in Canada and to finally fight in Canada in front of some the best MMA fans out there! This will define my journey as a fighter!

The Team Victory fighter will make his MFC debut on January 17 against an unnamed opponent live on AXS TV.
