After UFC 332 broke two records in one night, fans cannot wrap their head around the poor fighter payouts.
The fight purses for the Utah event have been revealed, and surprisingly, the figures just don't make sense. While the UFC has constantly been under scrutiny over matters of fair pay, UFC 332 seems to have made that issue even more glaring.
UFC 332 Records Miserable Earnings Despite Showstoppers
The combat world had little faith in the UFC 332: Silva vs. Cong card. Still, it delivered fierce showdowns, witnessing 11 total knockouts, with nine in the first round. That's broken all records inside the promotion, turning a lacklustre fight card on paper into an unforgettable night. The fighters' purses, however, stand in complete contrast.
In a recent post by MMA Uncensored, the digits behind the violence were made public. The new flyweight champion Natalia Silva, who edged a thrilling striking battle to defeat Wang Cong in the main event, received $354,000. Cong, meanwhile, took home $150,000.
In the co-main event, Payton Talbott earned a significant $199,000, given his emerging status in the promotion. Deiveson Figueiredo, despite losing the bout, took home a larger payout of $260,000. What surprised fans most, however, was King 'Bobby' Green's $133,000, despite being a spectacle in the UFC since 2013. Esteban Ribovics, who beat Green in the first round via stoppage, earned $157,000.
Another thing that caught attention was Johnny Walker's pay, which surpassed the champion's at $394,000. Mick Parkin earned $210,000.
Although the figures are not terrible on their own, what truly makes them ridiculous is the promotion's stature in the world of MMA. Hosting some of the biggest events, not just in MMA but in all of sports, UFC has received massive backlash over paying just 18.6 percent of its revenue to fighters. In comparison, Major League Soccer topped the list at 76 percent.
Undoubtedly, fans had their thoughts to share on another night where fighters bit the dust despite shattering records.
Fans Blast Low Payouts Despite 11-KO Spectacle
The questionable fighter earnings were sure to spark a reaction, and fans stopped at nothing in their criticisms. One fan cut straight to the point: "This is terrible poor fighters."
Another wrote, "Yeah that's peanuts," while another simply commented, "Sad..." "Keep it under budget ✅ Bonuses for the big bosses ✅ Fighters still living pay check to pay check ✅," one comment brought up the ugly reality of the sport's financial conditions.
Meanwhile, another compared directly with boxing: "Taxes, team camp costs, hospital/treatment. Man that sh*t ain't worth that pay. Boxers is a dying sport making more...maybe." Silva not being the highest earned also brought attention.
"Highway robbery in the main event." Another user added, "Why did Johnny Walker get more than the champ????"
Some other criticisms also followed, especially King Green's low pay. "Bobby should be on 250/250," one fan suggested, while another was simply too stunned. "How is Bobby making 130K... wtf lol."
The reaction only added fuel to the long-running debate over whether UFC fighters are receiving compensation that matches the risks they take and the value they bring to the promotion.
