Luke Thomas pointed out how the next fight for Ilia Topuria will be a deciding factor in his career.
It was very long ago that Ilia Topuria was on top of the UFC world. With the sport of MMA being a great leveler, Topuria has received a jolt back to harsh reality in his bout against Justin Gaethje. Getting beaten up badly, UFC analyst Luke Thomas opined that it would be a hard path for the Spaniard to regain his dominance.
Luke Thomas Analyzes Ilia Topuria’s Current Situation
Thomas recently had an elaborate analysis of where Topuria stands as of now. Reflecting on the situation, he stated that things have gone bad in every possible manner. Coming in as the two-division champion, Topuria was a heavy favorite to win the bout. Unfortunately, by the time the fight ended, the Spaniard was deemed medically unfit to fight. Such a development, according to Thomas, will take a heavy mental toll on the ‘El Matador.’
Thomas quipped, “There are losses, and then there are bad losses, and then there's what happened to Ilia. That was a very, very, very bad loss. He got beat up, which is maybe the most important component of it.”
He further added, “Like, even if you win and you're that messed up, there's gonna be a cost that is associated with that, and we don't know what that is yet, but that is a huge question. That's number one. Two, you lost, straight up, and you lost your belt.”
Thus, he concluded that the comeback fight will be of utmost importance. Before the fight against Gaethje, the Spaniard was regarded as one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. Boasting an unbeaten record, the two-division champion’s loss took everybody by surprise. However, despite all the negative statements, Merab Dvalishvili still has a lot of faith in Topuria.
Merab Dvalishvili Confident about Ilia Topuria going Back to the Top
The Georgian star has been one of the closest friends with the Spanish fighter. Extending his support during adversity, ‘The Machine’ confidently claimed that he believed Topuria would continue dominating his opponents again once he comes back.
“As you guys all see, he's having a great time. He's enjoying life. When he comes back, he will get back the belt and he will beat everybody. Nobody can stop him,” Dvalishvili predicted.
With a lot of eyes on ‘El Matador,’ it now remains to be seen what’s next.
