Anshul Jubli has opened up about what representing India means to him, revealing the personal motivation that drives his mission to make the country proud on the global MMA stage.
MMA is a sport built on representation. Fighters carry their region, religion, clan, nation, state, gym and plenty more into the cage, and it means a lot to them. Some rivalries, like Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya, grew largely out of African pride. Only a handful of fighters are carrying India's flag. Anshul Jubli has now opened up on what it means to represent a nation of 1.4 billion people.
Anshul Jubli Shares the Patriotic Inspiration Behind His MMA Journey
Jubli was asked by Full Violence's Shiv Patel what it feels like to carry the Indian flag, and he didn't hold back. Representing India, he said, means everything to him. He has been a patriot since he was a kid and a big fan of Bhagat Singh, the Indian revolutionary who fought for the country's freedom. Being Indian is a big part of who he is, Jubli said.
In his words, “It means everything to me. Representing India or the Indian flag means so much to me. Ever since I was a kid, I have been patriot and a fan of Bhagat Singh. It's a big part of my identity that I'm an Indian. While I was competing in India I used to represent Uttarakhand, when I was fighting against Indian fighter but now on the international stage. Representing means everything to me.”
Back home, when he was facing other Indian fighters, he represented Uttarakhand. Now that he is competing on the international stage, he fights for the whole country, and he said that means everything to him. Indeed, it is a huge achievement, as he comes from a country that lacks a strong combat sports infrastructure, and he is the only male fighter representing it.
Anshul Jubli Eyeing To Make His Comeback After Back-To-Back Losses
When Jubli got signed by the UFC, it was an exciting moment for everyone as he entered the company after defeating one opponent after another. However, after signing the contract, he lost back-to-back fights, with his last loss coming in just 19 seconds. Meanwhile, he is now looking to bounce back and has started training in the USA at the UFC PI.
If he loses another fight, he might get released from the company, as he has just one fight left on his contract. He is now focused on securing a big win and earning another UFC contract.
