Usman Nurmagomedov's Future gets New Twist Following Major UFC Appearance

Usman Nurmagomedov is currently headlining MMA. Following his undefeated run in the PFL, the Russian mixed martial artist has teased a potential shift from his existing promotion. Facing off against Archie Colgan at the PFL New York event, Nurmagomedov clinched his win in the opening round. Now, with the rumors circulating about a possible UFC transition, more fuel was added to the speculation recently.

Following the PFL New York event, the Dagestani fighter’s contract with the promotion was up. Now, while being a free agent, the 28-year-old star has a couple of choices. He can renew his contract with the PFL, or explore a completely new deal with Dana White’s UFC. Recently, that particular idea got quite the push as the 22-0 fighter was spotted at the UFC 330 presser. 

Not only that, but the former Bellator Lightweight Champion could also be seen speaking to Hunter Campbell.  This is quite significant as Campbell holds the responsibility of matchmaking in White’s promotion. Thus, speculations have grown whether the duo was pondering a possible future UFC contract. 

Interestingly, the UFC CEO, too, has already expressed his interest in signing the PFL star. So it is purely Nurmagomedov’s decision at this point. 

Islam Makhachev Wants Usman Nurmagomedov to ‘Feel’ UFC Before a Title Shot

Makhachev has been around in the UFC for a long time now. Understanding the business thoroughly, the current UFC welterweight champion had some important advice for Nurmagomedov. Makhachev stated that if the 28-year-old star does wish to join the UFC, he should not jump into a title fight straightaway. 

The 34-year-old said, “He has to feel this atmosphere. He has to fight one time... because this is like one of the big divisions in UFC, you know, and come from another division and fight for the title, I think... he has to come, feel this atmosphere, feel this all, media, everything, and fight for the title next."

Surely, the stakes are looking quite high and the fans will eagerly wait to see what happens next.
