UFC 179 went down in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tonight, and the main event saw Jose Aldo successfully defend his Featherweight Championship in a rematch with the ever-game Chad Mendes. In a fight that saw officiating on par with playoff hockey – that is to say, “nearly non-existant” – Aldo and Mendes battled back and forth enroute to the Brazilian retaining his title  via unanimous decision.
