Anthony Wint explains how intense conditioning and a relentless mindset fuel his string of quick UFC finishes.
Anthony Wint barely had a chance to catch his breath at UFC 332. The undefeated heavyweight needed just 23 seconds to end Lucas Armand's night, adding another lightning-fast finish to an already impressive run.
Some might see his quick bouts and assume that he is underprepared. However, the reality is quite the opposite. The former NFL linebacker believes that his training, preparation, and conditioning at Kill Cliff FC, along with the work on his body and game plan, have given him the confidence to press on the moment a window opens.
Anthony Wint Has More to Give
Wint's latest win successfully marked his second UFC win and his fifth pro victory that ended in under 40 seconds. His UFC debut against Terrance Chatman went longer than this one, but Wint still found a first-round-arm-triangle finish after facing some early trouble.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Wint discussed how quick finishes can mess with his own sense of how the fight feels, making him feel like he still has plenty of energy left.
“I’ve had, what, five wins that ended in under 40 seconds, and I train so hard, man. We condition a lot. I’ve got a great team behind me, and it’s like, I’ve got more to put out there,” Wint said. The 31-year-old also revealed that he believed that the matchup with Armand would not last long. In his view, his work in camp helped him judge what his opponent might do, then act right away once he started landing.
“It was just me deciding, hey, once I start punching, I’m not going to stop,” Wint explained.
So far, his UFC run has looked sharp. His mindset produced remarkable results and he was able to earn his contract with a 34-second stoppage of Matt Adams on Dana White's Contender Series. He went on to submit Chatman in his first UFC appearance, after which he knocked out Armand in just 23 seconds.
Wint now stands at 9-0 as a pro. The heavyweight is already ready for tougher tests and harder fights. Moreover, he has already called for a matchup with Sean Sharaf, another fast-rising heavyweight, with a 12-second knockout of Gable Steveson at UFC 331.
