Chinese striker Zhang Peimian has unfinished business at The Inner Circle 22.

The 22-year-old challenges reigning ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan Di Bella for the belt in the main event on Friday, July 17, inside Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. It streams live on live.onefc.com.

Zhang was only 19 years old when he first shared the Circle with Di Bella in October 2022, fighting for the vacant ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title. A left high kick dropped the Chinese striker for a knockdown in the final round, a moment that proved decisive in tilting the verdict toward the Italian-Canadian star.

Three years on, Zhang is a significantly different fighter with six ONE Championship victories, a 20-5 career record, and the maturity of a 22-year-old who understands exactly what cost him the first fight.

Zhang Credits Di Bella's Improvements, Sees a Dangerous Five-Round War

Zhang has not entered this rematch underestimating the champion. The Chinese fighter has studied Di Bella carefully and given him genuine credit for the growth he has shown across years of competition since their 2022 clash.

"His boxing is one of a kind, but I think his footwork and kicks have also been improving a lot. He's been fighting some of the best strikers , so he's got good experience," Zhang stated.

The Chinese athlete is a high-volume striker who has developed just as significantly in the same period. Six ONE Championship victories and a refined competitive intelligence give the 22-year-old a very different profile from the teenager who fought for the vacant title three years ago.

Chinese Phenom Lost the First Fight Because He Fell Into Di Bella's Mind Games

The key lesson Zhang has taken away from the first encounter is not technical but mental. The Chinese challenger has identified the root cause of the 2022 defeat and arrived at The Inner Circle 22 with a very specific adjustment in his approach.

"The key is to not fall into his mind games, which is why I lost the first time. I was too easily provoked – I was only 19 back then. I think it will be a five-round war. Maybe there will be some knockdowns in between," he explained.

A left high kick knockdown in the final round was the moment that separated the two fighters in October 2022. The maturity gap between a 19-year-old being provoked into mistakes and the composed 22-year-old standing across from Di Bella on July 17 is the single most important difference heading into the rematch.

Becoming China's First ONE Kickboxing World Champion Is Bigger Than Revenge

Revenge is a natural narrative for any fighter returning to face the man who defeated him. Zhang has reframed that narrative entirely, pointing to a goal that carries a significance far beyond settling a personal score.

"It doesn't matter if I get my revenge. What matters is that I become the first-ever Chinese ONE Kickboxing World Champion. Millions of people have been waiting for that moment for years," he said.

Di Bella, 29, arrives on a three-fight winning streak with victories over Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Prajanchai PongSuphan PK on his resume, holding a 15-1 career record and a 5-1 ONE Championship mark as a southpaw who has continued to evolve since their first encounter.
