A Glover Teixeira vs. Alexander Gustafsson rematch may be in the works

At 46 years old, Glover Teixeira isn't done fighting after returning from a near-four-year absence. He defeated Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua in a boxing match at Spaten Fight Night 3, and seemed more than eager to fight again, answering reported interest in a bout from Alexander Gustafsson's camp.

To Glover Teixeira, age is just a number. After all, most of his greatest achievements in combat sports happened in his twilight years, as he is the second-oldest UFC champion in history, behind only the legendary Randy Couture. So, it comes as no surprise that the ex-UFC light heavyweight champion saw fit to fight again at Spaten Fight Night 3, where he looked better than expected, but still past what he showed even three years ago. He took on fellow ex-UFC light heavyweight kingpin and Brazilian legend Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua in an eight-round boxing match, dominating most of the fight, and even scoring a knockdown to pick up the unanimous decision.

Prior to the bout, there was talk of Alexander Gustafsson's team being interested in a rematch of their UFC Fight Night 109 clash from nearly 10 years ago. At the time, Gustafsson won the bout after nearly 25 minutes, styling on Teixeira in the fifth round, where he stumbled him with three uppercuts, slipped on the outside of a Teixeira right hand, then cracking him over the top with a right hook that knocked him out cold. It was one of Gustafsson's best-ever wins, and on Swedish soil in front of his own countrymen, no less. So now, nearly a decade later, Teixeira was receptive to a rematch when asked by MMA Fighting in a backstage post-fight interview at Spaten Fight Night 3 (1:18):

"100%. You know, like I said, I just come back today and I felt good, and I think ring rust a little bit, but coming back now is just amazing, and, hey, whatever fights that make sense, I'll be fighting."

Gustafsson's win over Teixeira from UFC Fight Night 109 was actually his last MMA win, as he then went on a four-fight losing streak, before being ultimately released from the UFC and signing with the GFL, which, unfortunately, collapsed before ever holding an event.
