A Year After Assault, Luis Hernandez Makes Truce with Sean Strickland
Luis Hernandez has cleared the air about his feud with Sean Strickland after landing a contract with the UFC.
The Miami Sheriff has embarked on a new chapter with his latest UFC contract and a fresh start to his relationship with Sean Strickland.
Luis Hernandez Buries Hatchet with Strickland
The DWCS standout ended his night on a spectacular note with a second-round rear-naked choke finish against Hugo Guillon. But Hernandez didn't take this opportunity to fan the flames of his beef with the UFC Middleweight Champion. Instead, 'The Stache' has resorted to reconciling matters with Strickland.
Speaking with MMA Junkie during the post-fight presser, Hernandez addressed his current situation with 'Tarzan'. He began, "At the end of the day, I have nothing against Strickland. I'm actually a fan of Strickland and I'm glad to see him be the champion and I'll never have anything bad to say about him. I'm actually wanting to meet up with him."
This may come as a surprise considering the heated history between the pair. After a guillotine finish against Miles Hunsinger at Tuff-N-Uff 145 in Las Vegas last year, Hernandez had struck an inflammatory "crotch chop" celebration at his opponent's corner, which included Strickland. That had triggered the UFC champion, who jumped into the cage and landed heavy blows on Hernandez.
While the security had de-escalated the brawl, it landed Tarzan in a 6-month suspension. Naturally, that incident left a sour mark on both fighters. The Miami fighter, however, has since reached out to the middleweight phenom and made amends through messages.
The Florida police officer also hinted at a potential meetup with Strickland before revealing his actual priority.
Luis Hernandez Focuses on Entertaining Fans
With both the feud with Sean Strickland and the pressure of securing a UFC contract out the window, Hernandez can finally focus on something more important: putting on an entertaining show.
Speaking on his promotional debut, the Stache promised to replicate the showmanship of MMA legend Don Frye. In fact, the 'Predator' is the real inspiration behind both Hernandez's iconic mustache look and his fighting moniker.
"I'm a brawler and that's why I got the stash, too. and I'm going forward and I want to put on good fights and wherever the fight goes, I'm willing to take it," the Miami fighter revealed in the same interview.
Numbers back this confidence, with a 100 percent finishing rate on his resume. With five of those via submissions and three by KO/TKO, Hernandez clearly brings a well-rounded arsenal.
He has also opened himself up to the possibility of dropping down to lightweight if the UFC demands. Apparently, weight classes don't bother the Miami fighter if the right offer lands.
Now, with the initial struggle conquered, Luis Hernandez is ready to hit new strides with the promotion. Only this time, he can do so without the burden of his past feud with Strickland.
