The Louisianan native wants the UFC to book Arman Tsarukyan against Justin Gaethje for the title and book Ilia Topuria against Paddy Pimblett.
Arman Tsarukyan has had the UFC world talking about him after his dominant win over seasoned striker Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331.
While there are other elite contenders in the division, many fans and critics feel Tsarukyan deserves the next title shot. Dustin Poirier is one of them.
Dustin Poirier Backs Arman Tsarukyan as Next Title Contender
During the new episode of the Deep Waters Crew on YouTube, Dustin Poirier discussed the recent lightweight scenario with Chris Weidman, Din Thomas, and Jorge Masvidal.
Despite his loss to Justin Gaethje, Ilia Topuria remains in the title conversation because of his undefeated streak. However, Poirier doesn’t see that fight happening.
“I don’t want to see a rematch right now; I think Arman deserves it (title shot) without a question. Arman earned his title shot,” Poirier said.
Poirier suggested Paddy Pimblett for Topuria’s return to keep the division running. “Paddy vs. Ilia is one of the biggest fights,” Poirier added.
Tsarukyan is a logical choice for a lightweight title clash against Gaethje. Even the champion himself said that if Tsarukyan scores a knockout, he will fight next. And the Armenian just did that.
Tsarukyan Says the UFC Is Working on the Title Fight
Following UFC 331, Dana White confirmed in the press conference that Tsarukyan is next in line for the title. And interestingly, the 29-year-old confirmed that the wheels are in motion.
In a recent video, Tsarukyan said, "I talked to them, so everything is fine; they are working on the next fight being for the title."
Tsarukyan (24-3) has consistently proven his worth against the division’s elite. He is currently riding an impressive six-fight winning streak.
Beyond his fighting resume, the Armenian star has built a cult following on social media through his collaborations and antics with Nina Drama and N3on.
With his combination of star power and elite skills, Tsarukyan is exactly the type of fighter the UFC craves. Everything considered, a matchup between Tsarukyan and Gaethje feels inevitable.
