Charles Oliveira Falls Out of UFC P4P Rankings as Carlos Ulberg Enters Top 15
Fans are in for a major shock as the BMF Champion finds himself on the outside looking in at the pound-for-pound rankings after the recent shuffle.
The UFC has released the latest look at its Meta pound-for-pound rankings, and it seems to be full of surprising choices. However, what has grabbed the most attention is 'Do Bronx's sudden absence from the list altogether.
Charles Oliveira Drops Out of UFC's Top 15
After the UFC 331 showdown and Tom Aspinall vacating the heavyweight belt, there has been a massive overhaul in the promotion's top 15. Amid that reshuffle, Charles Oliveira has completely left the pound-for-pound rankings, even though he still retains his No. 3 spot in the lightweight division.
That surely feels jarring considering the Brazilian's most recent outing was a statement win against Max Holloway for the BMF title at UFC 326. While the top-15 rankings are less about recent individual records, what makes that context particularly interesting is how it had previously affected the list.
The former lightweight champion had climbed up eight spots to tie with Jack Della Maddalena at #11. And although none of those accomplishments have been erased, the landscape surrounding the Meta rankings conversation has definitely shifted.
UFC Meta Rankings Reflect Striking Differences
The promotion's latest numbered event was more than yet another fight night. Title implications dotted the show, with the co-main showdown delivering the biggest punch.
The No. 1 lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan has made his name in the title scene unavoidable after a brutal elbow knocked out Mauricio Ruffy with just seconds left in the round. The Armenian climbing one spot up to #13 comes as no surprise. However, some other choices have definitely left fans scratching their heads.
Both Ciryl Gane and Alex Pereira have dropped one spot, even though Pereira still finds himself above 'Bon Gamin'. Clearly, Gane's devastating TKO win over the double UFC champion had little effect on the rankings.
Some even raised issues with Tom Aspinall still staying in the list despite an extensive hiatus from the promotion due to his eye injury, and only dropping two spots. Petr Yan, Merab Dvalishvili, and Alexandre Pantoja also fell one spot.
Meanwhile, Joshua Van has made the biggest leap, jumping up five spots to rank #6 following his spectacular UD win last Saturday. The previously unranked light heavyweight champion Carlos Ulberg has also joined the list, sitting at No. 15.
