Colby Covington Takes Brutal Personal Shot at Ian Garry Following Islam Makhachev Defeat

Colby Covington is never one to pass up an opportunity to kick a rival while they are down. Fresh off Ian Machado Garry’s high-profile title challenge against reigning champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 330, "Chaos" came out swinging with a brutal personal verbal assault.

Garry entered the biggest fight of his career at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, looking to capture gold. Instead, the undefeated aura hit a brick wall against Makhachev, who leaned on his championship experience and grappling to secure a unanimous decision victory. While most fighters would respect a challenger stepping up to test himself against the pound-for-pound elite, Covington chose a completely different route.

Ian Garry's Role Reversal

True to form, Covington didn't just critique Machado Garry's performance inside the Octagon; he zeroed in on the Irishman's personal life with a series of harsh personal jabs.

"Now the wife got to sit in the corner and watch him get dogged down," Covington said. "At least the roles got reversed for once. The world got to see that he was exposed as a c**k."

Covington doubled down on the remarks, referencing the dynamic surrounding Garry's corner team during fight night.

"It was very fitting," Covington continued. "Now instead of him sitting in the corner and watching his wife with the nutritionist, he got to have his wife in the corner watch him get dogged down. It was great."

Garry, whose professional record moved to 17-2 following the grueling championship loss, has frequently dealt with outside-the-cage noise regarding his relationship and corner setups. Covington, ever the heel, made sure to amplify those talking points while  dismissing his championship aspirations.

While Machado Garry looks to lick his wounds and work his way back up the welterweight ladder, it is clear that fighters like Covington will continue keeping a close eye on him, mostly just to find new ammunition for the next rant.
