Fedor Emelianenko remains open to competition at 50
The Russian legend is still willing to return to competition and appears more interested in boxing than MMA.
Fedor Emelianenko has not ruled out a return to combat sports despite approaching his 50th birthday. The former PRIDE FC heavyweight champion continues to train and says he would consider competing again if he receives an offer that makes sense. Emelianenko also revealed that boxing is currently more appealing to him and mentioned Randy Couture as a potential opponent.
Fedor Emelianenko Open to Fighting Again
The last time Emelianenko competed was in February 2023, when he suffered a TKO loss to Ryan Bader at Bellator 290. Although "The Last Emperor" hasn't competed since, the Russian legend has continued training while coaching his team and remains open to another fight if the right opportunity comes along. With his 50th birthday approaching on Sept. 28, Emelianenko does not appear to have closed the door on a potential comeback.
"I keep training," Emelianenko told MMA Junkie. "I keep training with my team. I'm coaching my team, so I keep training. Competition-wise, if it's going to be a good offer, and it makes sense, why not (return)? I can compete still."
While Emelianenko has not ruled out an MMA return, he appears to be leaning toward boxing. The former heavyweight champion revealed that he has been working on his boxing skills and sees the noble art as an interesting option for a future fight.
"We worked on boxing, so boxing is interesting," Emelianenko said.
Fedor Emelianenko Names Randy Couture as Potential Opponent
Throughout his long career, Emelianenko faced some of the top fighters of his generation. However, as the Russian legend never joined the UFC, several possible matchups never materialized. Now, when asked about a potential opponent, Emelianenko mentioned Couture, reviving one of the most famous heavyweight matchups that never happened. The two legends were linked to a fight during their primes, but they never shared the ring or Octagon.
"I believe Randy would be much more interesting as a fighter," Emelianenko said. "I'm ready if he's ready."
For now, there is no indication that Emelianenko has agreed to return to competition. However, the Russian has made it clear that he remains open to another fight if the right opportunity presents itself.
