Gillian Robertson eyes unique MMA record with win over Mackenzie Dern at UFC 330

Gillian Robertson is on the cusp of etching her name in the MMA history books with a UFC title win this weekend. "The Savage" has now opened up regarding the same. 

Robertson is scheduled to take on reigning UFC women's strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern in the co-headlining match of UFC 330 on August 15.

Gillian Robertson is up against the American-Brazilian grappling extraordinaire, Mackenzie Dern. The 33-year-old Dern is a multi-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) world champion and currently rules the UFC women's strawweight division. Robertson, on her part, is also considered to be quite a dangerous grappler. 

In episode No. 2 of the UFC 330 Embedded: Vlog Series on the UFC's official YouTube channel, Robertson addressed her imminent maiden UFC title shot. 

A member of The Goat Shed Academy in Doral, Florida, Robertson indicated that she's cutting weight, as her UFC 330 fight is fast approaching, and isn't going too hard in training. 

Implying that she's simply working to cut weight and relaxing, Robertson stated: 

"We are in the middle of a weight cut now. You know, we're getting close. So we're just gonna move around, hit the pads, then get on the bike, do a little cardio, and hop in the sauna for a little bit, and then relax for the rest of the day."

Gillian Robertson has consistently maintained that her pressure is going to be a significant element, particularly in her upcoming fight that'll be scheduled for five rounds because it's a title fight. 

The 31-year-old has seemingly warned that Mackenzie Dern would be in her world in the latter rounds. She noted, "I don't think there is any girl in the strawweight division, never mind in the UFC, that can handle my pressure."

Furthermore, Robertson discussed the fact that she could make MMA history by becoming the first female fighter from Canada to win a UFC title. Expounding upon it, the Niagara Falls, Ontario-born combatant said: 

"To be the first female Canadian champion, honestly, it means the world to me. It's going to be awesome to be able to represent my country like that, and I can't wait to bring the belt home. I'm a 100 percent going to be the champion. The belt's already mine." 

The challenger Robertson is on a five-fight win streak. She's fresh off a unanimous decision victory against Amanda Lemos earlier this year. 

Incidentally, Lemos is the last person to have defeated Dern, with the latter having lost to her by way of unanimous decision in 2024.

Dern has since put together a three-fight winning streak, with her latest Octagon appearance being a unanimous decision victory over Virna Jandiroba last year. It earned her the vacant UFC women's strawweight belt.
