“Good Luck to Your Boyfriend!” - Usman Nurmagomedov Attacks Jon Jones Following Gable Steveson Loss
Usman Nurmagomedov clapped back at Jon Jones following Gable Steveson's KO loss at UFC 331. The PFL fighter absolutely roasted Jones, who was in Steveson's corner.
Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov isn’t one to sit quietly when his teammates are targeted. Following Gable Steveson’s shocking 12-second knockout loss to Sean Sharaf at UFC 331, Nurmagomedov seized the opportunity to fire a sharp personal shot at UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
The Dagestani star took to social media to mock Jones, who was in Steveson’s corner when the 2020 Olympic gold medalist suffered the first defeat of his professional mixed martial arts career.
“What is a boomerang, do you know Jon? Shit happens. Good luck in the future to your boyfriend!” Nurmagomedov posted.
Karma Comes Full Circle
Nurmagomedov's jab was a direct response to Jones' recent online tirade directed at UFC pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev. Jones had previously criticized Makhachev during a heated debate over rankings, bringing up Makhachev's lone career defeat, a 2015 knockout against Adriano Martins to undermine his standing at the top of the sport.
For the Dagestani camp, watching Jones’ heavily hyped protégé get caught clean felt like instant karma. Steveson entered the Octagon as an overwhelming betting favorite, but Sharaf flattened the wrestler with a brutal left hook just 12 seconds into the opening round.
In the chaotic aftermath, Jones ushered a dazed Steveson straight out of the cage before veteran announcer Bruce Buffer could even declare the official result. Jones later took to social media to accept full responsibility for escorting Steveson to the back, explaining that his primary concern was his friend's health after taking such a heavy blow.
However, that explanation did little to shield Jones from the Dagestani team's victory lap online. By reminding Jones that anyone can get caught inside the Octagon, Nurmagomedov made it clear that trash-talking other champions often comes back around.
