Islam Makhachev On the Verge of Making UFC History Post-Ian Garry Fight

Islam Makhachev will have an important match to win this Saturday. Going up against Ian Garry, the bout will, in no way, be an easy task for the UFC Welterweight Champion. However, if he does manage to get himself a win, the Dagestani fighter will become a part of an elite UFC history. 

Islam Makhachev Might Surpass  Silva for Longest UFC Winning Streak

According to a recent update from Polymarket, Makhachev has a 76 percent chance of defending his title. The former lightweight champion decided to transition into the welterweight division following his victory against Renato Moicano. Facing the previous champion Jack Della Maddalena, Makhachev toppled him to become the new welterweight champion. 

 

The previous victory took the Dagestani's tally of back-to-back wins in the UFC to 16. Now, a victory over his Irish opponent this Saturday will take him past Anderson Silva. With 17 consecutive wins under his belt, Makhachev will then hold the record of having the longest winning streak in UFC history. 

However, despite all the odds favoring the champion, the fight can become tricky. Especially considering Garry’s exceptional striking ability. This is something that had Tom Aspinall drop a respectful assessment of the Irishman. 

Tom Aspinall Favors Islam Makhachev, Won't Count Out Ian Garry

The reigning UFC heavyweight champion recently dropped his picks for the UFC 330 main event. Trying to analyze the matchup on ‘Tom Aspinall Official,’ Aspinall backed the two-division champion to clinch a victory. Interestingly, the English fighter also didn't dismiss Garry’s chance to pull off an upset. 

The 33-year-old said, “Islam Makhachev decision... I just think that he's got more chance of controlling the fight than Ian landing something. That being said, I think it's completely possible that Ian can win. And I'm not 100 percent confident in my prediction either, but I can't think that anybody in the world division is going to beat Islam at the moment."

Thus, with a lot at stake, fans will wait to see what happens next.
