Former Title Challenger to Return to UFC After Two Years Away
Former title challenger Katlyn Chookagian returns after over two years away from the sport.
Former flyweight title challenger Katlyn Cerminara (nee Chookagian) will return after almost two and a half years when she faces Jamey-Lyn Horth at UFC Edmonton on October 17th, as reported by Iridium.
Cerminara has only had just one fight since October 2022 and hasn't won a fight since May of that year. With that being said, she has still had her battles outside of the octagon.
UFC Tenure & Shot at Gold
This year, 'Blonde Fighter' celebrated 10 years in the UFC, having debuted in 2016. She holds the prestigious accolade of being the first-ever fighter to walk out in the state of New York as she competed at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden.
She would go 2-1 at bantamweight before dropping down to flyweight and really making a name for herself. Cerminara would go 4-1 before realising a title shot, and although it wouldn't go her way against Valentina Shevchenko, she would bounce back with a record of 5-1 in her next six.
Her strong run of form would come to an abrupt end when she missed weight and lost a decision to Manon Fiorot.
She would take some time away from the sport following this loss in pursuit of starting a family; however, she would suffer two miscarriages. At the UFC 299 press conference, she would state, "I went through three or four full rounds of IVF. I had two miscarriages and yeah, it's been a tough year".
Although she would lose her UFC 299 bout to Maycee Barber, she was fighting to prove something to herself, and that she did.
UFC Edmonton Return
Her return at UFC Edmonton marks a significant moment in her career and life. She finally became a mother last year and, at 37 years old, will look to show that age is just a number and that being a mother has only made her hungrier for success.
After a prolonged period of time out of the octagon, it'll be a tough test, especially against someone like Horth. The Canadian is 9-3, but since Cerminara last fought, she's had seven fights. She's gone 4-3 in that time and will be looking to get back to winning ways in her home country of Canada.
