KSI announced the signing a few hours before, during the Misfits event in London.
Michael Venom Page Joins Misfits Boxing
Michael "Venom" Page stood alongside KSI in the ring and expressed his excitement about being a part of the Misfits banner. He said:
“I feel free. That's all I can say; I feel free”. “The shackles are off, and now, with my brother KSI, Mams Taylor, the Misfits team - oh, I can create some big memories here, some big moments. Big moments. And I want all the smoke - all the smoke, every name in the book, I'm here for it. Because the one and only 'MVP' is back.”
According to reports, the agreement is a multi-year, multi-fight deal. However, neither Page nor the promotion has confirmed his first fight or a date for his debut. Ariel Helwani said this about the deal on his X:
"MVP has signed with Misfits. I’m told it’s an exclusive combat deal (except he can do grappling/wrestling, like others). They have big plans for him."
Why Did the UFC Release Michael "Venom" Page?
Michael Page was cut from the UFC after the latter's unanimous decision win over Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC Paris in September. Securing a victory wasn't enough to earn a new contract. The Page vs. Ruziboev fight drew criticism for its low action from both ends.
Hence, after the win, he was denied the post-fight Octagon interview again.
“I had goals to achieve, so regardless of anything, I was winning my fights, which says to me you get to stay,” Page told Helwani. “That's the premise of this game. Success should breed more opportunities.”
The UFC decided not to offer him a new contract after UFC Paris. Page left the promotion with a 5-1 record and was on a four-fight winning streak.
The 39-year-old was unhappy with how the company handled his exit. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said he was expecting to sit down with the promotion and discuss his future. But instead, he found out that he would not be re-signed at the same time the news became public.
“I found out at the same time everybody else found out,” Page said.
He was also disappointed with the fact that he was not allowed to speak to fans after his final fight. Page wanted to continue competing in the UFC and fight for undisputed gold someday. Now, "Venom" begins a new chapter with Misfits Boxing.
