Tom Aspinall Shares Positive News for his Fans

Tom Aspinall recently vacated his UFC Heavyweight Championship  After waiting a long time to fight Jon Jones, Aspinall was finally crowned the champion upon Jones’ retirement.

Unfortunately, his title run fell apart pretty quickly. Defending against Ciryl Gane, the contest had to be halted due to an eye poke. While he did mention earlier that his eye is getting better, Aspinall confirmed that he needed medical attention to resolve the issue. Thankfully, in his latest video, the English fighter shared some good news. 

Tom Aspinall Puts Pause on YouTube Channel

Aspinall said, “We've had some good times on this channel, but for right now, I am focused on recovery, focused on getting back in the octagon, doing what I do best, l think."

In an earlier statement on Instagram, Aspinall pointed out that he did not want to hold up the division. Thus, while he will be undergoing treatments to fix his lingering eye injuries, Aspinall wanted others to use the opportunity to scale up in the division.

His statement read, “I’ve now made the decision to vacate the heavyweight title. I’ve asked the UFC to allow me to make this statement because I don’t want to hold the heavyweight division up. I know what it’s like to have your career put on hold and I want the other fighters to have the opportunity to compete for the title.”

Currently, Aspinall is focusing on his recovery, and there is no set date for his UFC return. 

Dana White Shrugs Off Personal Beef With Tom Aspinall

The UFC CEO has had his share of beef with UFC fighters. In a recent report, it was revealed that Aspinall had signed with Eddie Hearn. Additionally, he also remained inactive for quite some time before ultimately relinquishing the title. This led many to believe that the UFC boss might have some bad blood against Aspinall. 

However, when asked about the same, White denied it immediately. He said, “People think that I don’t like Tom. That’s the furthest thing from the truth. I have no reason not to like Tom. If I don’t like somebody, I’m pretty honest about it. If I didn’t like Tom, I would say it. And when guys sign with Eddie Hearn, we crack up laughing. It’s hilarious. Anybody who wants to sign with Eddie Hearn as their manager, fire away.”

Josh Hokit vs. Ciryl Gane will fight for the vacant heavyweight championship next.
