UFC Analyst Predicts Islam Makhachev Would Stick to His Strengths against Ian Garry

Islam Makhachev facing off against Ian Garry has garnered significant attention. With the verbal back-and-forth going on, there has been a lot of talk about a potential upset, especially, considering the fact how the Irish fighter is a dangerous striker. 

 According to Tyron Woodley, the Dagestani is too experienced and won’t take a chance by engaging with Garry.

For all the fans hoping for a brutal fist fight, they might be disappointed. In a recent statement, Makhachev’s coach Javier Mendez pointed out that the Dagestani had the ability to match Garry’s striking. But in a recent interaction with Jackpot City Casino, Woodley had a differing opinion.

Analyzing the fight, the 44-year-old claimed that Makhachev will surely take the easiest path for him to secure his maiden welterweight title defense. 

Woodley said, “I know Islam Makhachev is going to stay with the game plan. He's not worried about proving anything like, 'I can strike too.' He's going to take the path of least resistance. He's going to do what's going to secure him the victory to continue to remain with his record intact.”

He further emphasized that Garry won’t be able to match the two-division champion’s game on the ground. That’s because the Irishman can possibly never replicate the skills in three months that Makhachev has mastered for years.

Ahead of his UFC 330 main event, Makhachev is standing on the doorstep of history. Currently, he has 16 consecutive wins following his victory against Jack Della Maddalena. But if he manages to get past Garry this Saturday, the Dagestani fighter will beat Anderson Silva for the longest UFC winning streak at 17. 

Back in his welterweight debut against Della Maddalena, there were doubts about his striking game. A lot of critics favored the former champion. But ultimately, Makhachev established total domination. He took down the Aussie fighter four times and controlled him on the ground for almost 20 minutes.
