Jared Cannonier Gives Christian Leroy Duncan Advice After Loss
Following their UFC Oklahoma City bout, Jared Cannonier gave his opponent advice, despite losing the fight.
UFC Oklahoma City is now one for the books and the co-main event saw another contender emerge in the UFC middleweight division. Christian Leroy Duncan dominated Jared Cannonier on his way to a unanimous deicison victory to cement himself as a legitimate contender in the middleweight division.
A clip has since emerged with Cannonier, despite losing, being extremely humble and offering CLD advice for future fights.
Jared Cannonier Offers Christopher Leroy Duncan Advice
In a video that has recently come to light, Cannonier and Duncan met backstage after their bout. Speaking to the Brit, Cannonier said "I think you are very dynamic. I think you have expert footwork, you know how to move and manage your distance, which is why I was pressuring, you know what I mean? But you still managed to get away from me a lot of the time.
If I was to say hey, this is something you could add, probably feinting a little bit more intentfully. You know what I mean? Because we all tend to feint like (mimics feint) but I want you to look at me", to which CLD replies "That makes sense".
What's Next for Both Men?
Christopher Leroy Duncan has now cracked the top 10 of the Meta UFC rankings. Enjoying a five fight winning run, a huge fight is on the horizon for Britain's Duncan. With the biggest win of his career over Cannonier, it's time for CLD to make the step up. Logical next fights include a stand-up battle with former champion, Israel Adesanya, a shootout with Caio Borralho or potentially a meeting with the top five ranked Brendan Allen.
For Cannonier, he's now slipped to 1-4 in his last five. With that being said, he's only lost to the best of the division. At 42, he's very much a gatekeeper to a rankings spot. On his day, he can beat a number of top contenders, it's just how often his day presents itself. Expect a fight against Jacob Malkoun, Cam Rowston or
Ateba Gautier. Either of these three men deserve a shot at the rankings and Cannonier could provide just that.
