The former UFC two-division champion says fans might never see him make the jump to boxing.

With several lucrative promotions like Misfits Boxing and MVP entering the combat sports business, prominent ex-UFC fighters such as Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, and Francis Ngannou have transitioned to boxing.

Subsequently, fans expect top UFC fighters to try their hand at the sweet science after ending their UFC careers. Alex Pereira is one such name. However, he might be out of the picture.

Alex Pereira Says Boxing Career Is ‘Impossible’

During an interview with Fred Talks Fighting, the UFC heavyweight star was asked whether he would ever have a boxing match with Misfits Boxing. Pereira gave a direct response, citing his age.

“Well, with seven fights left in my UFC contract, in 39. It’s kinda impossible,” Pereira said.

‘Poatan’ is a former two-division GLORY Kickboxing champion and a GLORY Hall of Fame inductee, making him a lucrative prospect in boxing.

However, the Brazilian is very clear about his future ambitions. As Pereira mentioned, he still has seven UFC fights left on his contract and aims to set a record before retiring.

Pereira Aims to Become Three-Division Champion

Alex Pereira entered the UFC in 2021, and with just three wins under his belt, the Brazilian went on to capture the UFC middleweight title.

He then became the light-heavyweight champion by dethroning Jiri Prochazka in 2023. ‘Poatan’ defended the title three times before losing it to Magomed Ankalaev in 2025.

However, he regained the belt in their rematch later that year. He eventually vacated the title in an attempt to capture the heavyweight championship, which would make him the first fighter to achieve the feat.

Unfortunately, Pereira fell short against Ciryl Gane in an interim heavyweight title fight at UFC Freedom 250 in June. However, he has still decided to remain on that path.

In his quest for a third belt, Pereira will now face No. 2-ranked Sergei Pavlovich in December at UFC 335. If he wins, Pereira could be in line for a title shot, given his impressive run in the promotion.
