Arman Tsarukyan Sheds Light on why He Threw Second Elbow on Mauricio Ruffy

Arman Tsarukyan’s vicious elbows are now in the highlight reels of every UFC fan. However, after watching the replays, many critics questioned why the Armenian fighter landed the second elbow when Mauricio Ruffy was out cold from the first one itself? In a recent interaction with Adam Zubayraev, Tsarukyan pointed out why the second elbow was absolutely necessary. 

Speaking with Zubayraev, ‘Ahalkalakets’ admitted that he went for an additional elbow shot deliberately. Inside the octagon, Tsarukyan realized that his Brazilian opponent had lost consciousness from the first strike, but he wanted to be absolutely sure. To eliminate the possibility of Ruffy waking up, Tsarukyan had to land another elbow to finish things off in style. 

Tsarukyan said, “The second time was just for fun, bro... As soon as I hit him, I was the first one to realize that he had fallen onto my shoulder. But what was I supposed to do — not finish him? What if he had woken up?"

Tsarukyan has already garnered significant praise for how he approached the fight. Trying to land some takedowns early on, Ruffy’s defense led the 29-year-old to fail. But instead of giving up,  Tsarukyan changed his style and started to box, which ultimately delivered the result. 

Israel Adesanya Wants Arman Tsarukyan to Imitate Khabib

Immediately after securing the victory, Tsarukyan called out Justin Gaethje, but even if he gets the opportunity, Adesanya feels that the matchup will not be a favorable one for Tsarukyan. Instead, the 29-year-old should look at how Nurmagomedov forced Gaethje to wrestle in order to wear him up. 

'Izzy' said, “So, Arman to get the job done and be the champ, he'll have to just heavily wrestle, and do what pretty much Khabib did. Just heavily wrestle. And I think Arman's big enough, also good enough on the stand-up, that he'll be able to compete with Justin standing up."

Currently, no fights are scheduled for either Tsarukyan or Gaethje.
