Brendan Allen's UFC Vegas 122 Win Looks Even More Impressive After Staph Reveal

A new detail has made Brendan Allen's intense five-round battle with Christian Leroy Duncan even more imposing.
Brendan Allen's victory over Christian Leroy Duncan was anything but straightforward. Over five brutal rounds, both fighters stayed in hot water, taking turns dictating the pace. However, Allen's side of the story may have been a little more punishing, according to his teammate's latest update.
Brendan Allen Pushes Through Staph Infection To Secure Submission Victory
'All In' clashed with the Brit in a gruelling 25-minute sprint on Saturday, successfully snapping Duncan's five-fight winning streak with a rear-naked choke. Christian Leroy Duncan, however, definitely made Allen work for the finish. Now, teammate Belal Muhammad has revealed disturbing details about the American's staph infection, putting the showdown into perspective.
Apparently, Allen had been dealing with staph since Tuesday (Oct. 6), forcing the fighter to take antibiotics. In fact, when the 30-year-old entered the Octagon, he still had five days of doses left.
"What people don't know is Brendan was dealing with a staph infection since Tuesday of fight week," Muhammad wrote on X.
"Had to get on antibiotics, still has 5 days left on them, and despite all that adversity, went out there and got the finish. Never complained, never made excuses, just found a way to win. That's the heart of a champion. Proud of my brother."

The former welterweight champion also shared a revolting image of All In's staph infection (per MMA Fighting), although it was later replaced with a different attachment.
As far as competing with such a contagious infection goes, the gamble had its own complications. Beyond Allen, Georges St. Pierre and Mikey Musumeci have also fought through such debilitating issues.
Brendan Allen Eyes The Division's Elite After Fierce Battle
The No. 4 middleweight undoubtedly kept fans glued to their seats until the last moment, delivering both the tension to the saga and a satisfying end to the drama. Despite eating multiple massive shots from Duncan, Allen stuck to what he's best known for: wrestling.
All In kept hunting takedowns from the starting bell to take the fight to the ground. Christian Leroy Duncan also did a great job of defending the attempts and answering with deadly combos, outstriking 46-17 in the fourth stanza. Ultimately, Allen brought the clash to his arena, chaining a wrestling attack with a hunt for the neck, getting the submission at the 2:46 mark of the fourth round.
In the post-fight interview, Allen sounded off against the middleweight's toughest with conviction:
"I'm steady, defending my spot, doing what I need to do. The bosses see me doing that thing, and I think we'll be rewarded next. Fight the champion, and if not, where's ? He's been running for a little while."
With the win over Christian Leroy Duncan, "All In" has extended his streak to four straight victories, with names like Marvin Vettori, Reinier de Ridder, and Edmen Shahbazyan on his resume. A highly ranked opponent next definitely makes the most sense given Allen's recent success.
