Caio Borralho Challenges Dricus du Plessis after UFC Oklahoma City
The Brazilian middleweight believes Du Plessis' win over Kamaru Usman wasn't enough to earn him another championship opportunity.
Following a unanimous decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev that cost him the middleweight title, Dricus du Plessis has bounced back after a dominant unanimous decision victory over Kamaru Usman at UFC Oklahoma City last Saturday. The South African now hopes the promotion will grant him another run at the belt.
Not everyone thinks his performance was enough to earn him a title shot. Currently ranked No. 5 in the middleweight division, Caio Borralho challenged Du Plessis and suggested they meet in the Octagon by the end of the year.
Caio Borralho Targets Fight Against Dricus du Plessis
Although du Plessis was able to dominate Usman, bounce back after his only loss in the UFC and record his tenth victory in eleven appearances with the promotion, Borralho is not convinced the former champion should get another title shot.
Shortly after UFC Oklahoma City, the Brazilian took to social media to suggest the South African should meet him in the Octagon in his next move in the promotion.
"Great fight for Dricus du Plessis last night!," Caio Borralho began. "But I don’t think was enough to get the title shot after. What do you think MSG November or T-Mobile December bro? I let u chose."
Middleweight Division Still Open
Since signing with the UFC in 2020, du Plessis quickly became one of the biggest names in the middleweight division. Just a few years after his UFC debut, the South African conquered the division's belt, which he went on to defend three times before losing the title to Khamzat Chimaev.
Ironically, the Russian lost the belt in his first title defense to Sean Strickland—an old acquaintance of Du Plessis, whom the South African has already defeated twice inside the Octagon.
As for Borralho, the Brazilian joined the UFC after participating in Dana White's Contender Series. Since making his promotional debut in 2022, Borralho has consistently delivered strong performances that have earned him three fight bonuses. Following his victory over Reinier de Ridder, the Brazilian has once again positioned himself among the division's top contenders.
For now, the future of the middleweight division is still in question and the UFC has yet to announce Sean Strickland's next challenger. If Borralho has his way, du Plessis will have to get through him before earning another shot at the title.
