Clash of the veterans: Drew Dober wants to fight Michael Chandler

The intention was clear as a day: Dober wants Chandler as the next opponent. Although fans liked the matchup, Chandler is yet to respond to the call-out.

Recently, Drew Dober teased the fans on his X account about the potential fight with Michael Chandler. The 37-year-old American fighter posted a picture of him and Chandler facing off, with the caption "for the fans." The matchup was well received by the community, but Chandler is yet to respond. This isn't the first time Dober has pushed for the fight with Michael, as he wanted to face the former Bellator champion on the White House card this year.

A perfect goodbye fight for Chandler

As Iron Michael turned 40 this year, the end of his career might come really soon. On top of that, he is currently on a 4-fight losing streak, although it is worth mentioning he lost only to the best fighters in the division. However, he himself dismissed the retirement calls and said that he wants to keep going. But to everyone watching, it is obvious that the best days are long gone for the lightweight fighter. Some fighters even urged Michael to retire, one of them being his former opponent Dustin Poirier.

The Dober fight would definitely be a fitting end for Chandler. Both of them being long-serving veterans of the sport, with more than 70 fights combined, the fans could expect a very entertaining bout between the two Americans. Another benefactor for Chandler is the fact that Dober would be a significant drop in the quality of the opponent. So the chance for him to end his journey with the win could prove to be a good motive for him to take this fight.  

Good chance for Drew Dober to extend his KO record in the lightweight division

As for Dober, this fight would also be a good fit. An owner of a record for the most KO/TKO wins in the lightweight division (11) does have the recipe for Chandler, whose chin proved to be extremely weak. On top of that Drew is looking to round up his total wins to 30 after wins over Kyle Prepolec and Michael Johnson.

The lightweight veteran already called for the Chandler fight, but in the end Mauricio Ruffy was the one who faced the American. A few days before the White House card, Dober expressed dissatisfaction about him not getting the fight that he wants, stating that he will eventually face Michael Chandler. Now, two months later, he took matter into his own hands with a public call for the fight, which fans backed up.

Chandler is yet to respond to the call-out, and the UFC didn't give any statement about Drew Dober's post.
