After months of boiling rivalry between the promoters, a peace of sorts might be possible as the Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury clash nears.
Dana White remains convinced about his involvement in the heavyweight boxing bout, while Eddie Hearn remains adamant about dismissing those claims. Amid this back-and-forth, the feud stays unresolved. A new development, however, might be on the verge of shifting that narrative.
Eddie Hearn Confirms a Meet in Los Angeles
The Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury matchup is scheduled for Dec. 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Despite a booing episode at Wednesday's launch press conference, Dana White doubled down on his involvement. However, Hearn has hinted that nothing regarding the promotion is set in stone yet.
When questioned about a big meeting in Los Angeles in the coming week, Anthony Joshua's manager replied:
"Yeah, it's supposed to be with him, yeah."
Still, he cautioned that the Zuffa Boxing co-founder's role continues to be in limbo, and might only get consideration because of his Saudi business partner Turki Alalshikh.
"I don't mean to sound arrogant, but they cannot be involved in the fight unless myself and Anthony allow them to be. And they seem to be very desperate to be involved in the fight. And Turki wants them to be involved in the fight and so do Netflix."
The Matchroom Sport chairman also shared details on what might be discussed at the meeting.
Eddie Hearn Clears The Air on Important Caveat
The British sports promoter has been extremely clear on what may convince him to have one of his fiercest rivals involved in the anticipated fight alongside him. That hinges on whether he and Joshua also get something out of the deal, or only Dana White rides on the momentum of the boxing matchup.
"It's great for the promotion, so I'm not against it. I just want you to tell me and explain why. Why should I? What's in it for Anthony? What's in it for us? And once we establish that, we can make a decision," he continued.
Until then, Hearn is not complaining about the hype the banter has been generating, especially with headlines from both boxing and MMA outlets bringing attention to the Joshua-Fury bout.
Joshua's manager also opened up about putting Dana White in the crosshairs to test his boxing knowledge.
"I got a lot of questions to quiz him on his boxing knowledge about his clients and potential opponents for them, stuff like that," Hearn added.
For the UFC head honcho's part, he doesn't seem interested in trading barbs anymore, with a confident outlook at UFC 332 post-fight presser. White repeated his claims of producing and promoting the fight, and confirmed his presence at Wales on Dec. 11.
