ENA Apologises After Bizarre Burger Slap at Misfits Boxing Press Conference
The former WWE star may have produced a spectacle at the Misfits Boxing press face-off, but he clearly seems to regret it afterwards.
Misfits Boxing has never escaped scrutiny, with its controversial antics and unconventional crossover boxing fights. Even as former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo headlines the card against Javon 'Wanna' Walton, there's something else that has grabbed fans' attention, albeit not for the best reasons.
ENA Confronts Controversial Face-Off Decision
Former WWE NXT wrestler Edris Enofe seemingly brought fast food as a peace offering to his opponent, online creator Bobby Smith, after kissing the influencer's girlfriend at the pre-fight presser. Before Smith could suspect what was going on, ENA struck him hard with the cheeseburger, knocking him down.
This not only forced the security to intervene but also fanned the flames of the growing bad blood between the heavyweights. Enofe, however, wants no part in that, looking for a civil truce to the debacle.
Taking to his social media, ENA issued his direct apology to Big Bobby the Boss:
“I would like to apologize for my actions last night at the Misfits’ Press Conference. What I did is not a reflection of who I truly am as a person. I am ashamed.
"To Bobby, I am truly sorry. Let’s put this behind us and keep everything professional. The last thing I want to do is disrespect this sport of professional boxing."
The Soft Ground Wrestling fighter also added a tongue-in-cheek comment, wishing Smith luck for the weigh-ins. ENA has clearly backpedalled on his feud with Smith since last night's spectacle.
This incident, however, is part of a bigger trend that has drawn scathing criticism at Misfits Boxing.
Tony Ferguson, Al Bernstein Rip Misfits Boxing for Objectionable Conduct
The burger slap wasn't an isolated event. From near-brawls and intense trash talk to incidents involving the fighters' partners, the press conference was chaotic overall. Not only did it attract backlash from fans, who viewed the promotion as a joke, but former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson also chimed in.
The Misfits Boxing Middleweight Champion directly called out the crowd as the show crossed the line into an inappropriate environment multiple times.
“My kids had to walk out because you guys are (expletive deleted) up. You guys want to do this for views and stuff? Imagine you, imagine your kids later on watching this," Ferguson hollered.
More specifically, addressing Enofe's actions, Hall of Fame commentator Al Bernstein remarked, “Well, the fighter that did the slapping should be suspended for at least a year."
Considering Misfits Boxing does not operate under the rules stipulated by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC), that suspension might never see the light of day.
Still, the Misfits: Cejudo vs. Walton press conference has left the promotion with a stained reputation. Although it succeeded in getting eyeballs to the event, high-profile fighters will undoubtedly think twice before signing with Misfits after Friday's fiasco.
