“I think I’m next for the title”: Charles Oliveira calls for Justin Gaethje fight and offers BMF title
Charles Oliveira called for a lightweight title fight against Justin Gaethje and offered to put his BMF title on the line in the potential showdown.
Charles Oliveira couldn't capitalize when he got the opportunity to reclaim the lightweight throne at UFC 317 last June. He faced Ilia Topuria for the vacant 155-pound title. He suffered a brutal knockout loss in the first round that shattered the dream of becoming a two-time lightweight king.
Since UFC 317, he turned the loss into fuel and put on two dominant performances: he submitted Mateusz Gamrot in the second round in October. Then he captured the BMF title via a dominant victory over Max Holloway at UFC 326. He now feels he is next in line for the title shot.
Charles Oliveira targets Justin Gaethje for lightweight title and makes BMF belt offer
In his recent appearance on ‘Olhar da Luta’ YouTube channel, Oliveira first cleared all the fight rumors and revealed that he was offered Mauricio Ruffy to face in November or December for the BMF title on the line. He showed little to no interest and declined the offer.
He shared that since all the rumors are circulating online, he has not been offered an opponent. Then he went on to say that he feels he should be next to face the current lightweight champion, Gaethje.
“I think I’m next for the title. That’s my thinking. That’s my focus,” Oliveira said.
The host made a suggestion and asked if he would put his BMF title on the line if f he gets a lightweight title fight against Gaethje. The Brazilian embraced the idea and made it clear he has no problem putting his title too.
“The lightweight title and the BMF put all titles on the line. No problem at all.”

Oliveira has a history with the reigning champion, having previously met in the octagon at UFC 274. The Brazilian wasted no time, submitting Gaethje in the first round. The American was also a former BMF champion before losing the title to Max Holloway.
Given the history between Oliveira and Gaethje, and with two titles potentially on the line, the matchup would undoubtedly make for an exciting fight for fans and a major business opportunity for the UFC.
