Mateusz Gamrot vows to beat Quillan Salkilld if Dustin Poirier attends: "This gonna be good, my man!"

Mateusz Gamrot is set to take on Quillan Salkilld at UFC Fight Night 284 in what promises to be a lightweight bout that will determine the complexion of the division's landscape. Despite the odds that both men are up against, Gamrot believes he has a trump card in Dustin Poirier's cage-side presence for the bout.

It's notable due to Poirier's recent airport arrest following a drunken altercation with a police officer. It's particularly important to his American Top Team teammate Mateusz Gamrot, who faces Quillan Salkilld at lightweight this Saturday, and in an interview with FULL SEND MMA, Gamrot asserted that it will be impossible for him to lose in Poirier's presence (5:17):

"He's crazy energy, always great attitude every day. He text me like he wanna come to my fight this Saturday in Las Vegas, and I text him back like, 'Bro, if you come, you give me 100% more power, you know? For attitude. So, if Dustin come this fight, bro, I am immortal, you know? Yeah, I think it's gonna be great. This gonna be good, my man."

Gamrot is coming off an impressive second-round submission win over Esteban Ribovics at UFC 327. It is his first win since a shocking second-round submission loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 261, which marked the first-ever submission loss of his career. Salkilld will provide him with a stiff test on the feet, as the Australian prospect is currently riding the wave of a 12-fight win streak, including a first-round TKO of Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night 275, and Dariush is an opponent Salkilld and Gamrot have in common, with Dariush having beaten Gamrot via unanimous decision at UFC 280.

A loss to Salkilld would be a tremendous setback for Gamrot, who was once touted as a championship-level fighter by fellow American Top Team fighter Jorge Masvidal. It could all but derail any lingering potential of Gamrot ever fighting for a title. However, Salkilld will hope to continue his climb to the top of the lightweight division by adding yet another big name to his record.
