Sean O’Malley Exposes Petr Yan’s Private Voice Note: “I Smashed Merab… You Go Next”
Sean O’Malley reveals a hilarious exchange with Petr Yan, who promises to beat Merab Dvalishvili before facing O’Malley next.
Sean O'Malley and Petr Yan may have some unfinished business, and a hilarious private exchange between the former rivals has added a new layer to their potential rematch. O'Malley recently revealed that he had reached out to Yan ahead of the upcoming trilogy fight with Merab Dvalishvili, and the ex-champion confidently told him that he would be next.
Sean O'Malley Wants Another Crack at Petr Yan
O'Malley shared the hilarious exchange on his YouTube channel and stated that he reached out to Yan ahead of the Russian's title trilogy with Dvalishvili. The former UFC bantamweight champ told Yan that he hoped to get past Merab so they could potentially have a rematch. yan's answer was short, straightforward, and characteristically confident.
“Sean, hello. Come to Abu Dhabi, I smash Merab, and you will be next.”
The message created an interesting scenario for O'Malley, who had already won over Yan on his record. Their last meeting was at UFC 280 in October 2022, when O'Malley won a controversial split decision after five closely competitive rounds.
The result has remained a big topic of discussion in the bantamweight division, with Yan and his supporters arguing that the Russian deserved the decision.
Yan Has Merab Standing in His Way
Yan still has Dvalishvili to deal with before he can even think about another meeting with O'Malley. Yan reclaimed the bantamweight championship in December 2025 after winning a unanimous decision over Dvalishvili at UFC 323 to tie their rivalry after Merab's dominant victory in their first encounter in 2023. The trilogy is now scheduled to headline UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 24.
As of now, O'Malley is waiting for his next big opportunity, and a Yan rematch could make a lot of sense if the Russian can successfully defend his title. At present, Yan has clearly laid out his priorities: first, defeat Merab, and then, come looking for "Suga."
