Tatiana Suarez vs. Virna Jandiroba Could Have Major Title Implications
A major strawweight bout kicks off in less than a month, and it could serve as a crucial title eliminator.
UFC Vegas 124 is all set for action on Nov. 7 at Meta APEX. Headlined by top welterweight contenders Gabriel Bonfim and Sean Brady, the card also features a crucial women's division matchup.
Tatiana Suarez, Virna Jandiroba Chase Title Shot
Tatiana Suarez vs. Virna Jandiroba is scheduled for UFC Fight Night: Bonfim vs. Brady next month. The strawweight bout, however, may have a title opportunity on the horizon, with both ladies ranked high in the division.
#3 contender Virna Jandiroba has come really close to grabbing the 115-lbs strap. However, the 5-round battle for the vacant belt eventually slipped from her hands, with Brazilian phenom Mackenzie Dern claiming the throne.
Since that loss, the former Invicta FC champion bounced back with conviction, snatching a unanimous decision victory over Tabatha Ricci earlier this year. Hailing a dominant grappling game, 'Carcara' is intent on making another title shot undeniable.
Tatiana Suarez, ranked No. 2, brings her own appeal. The Ultimate Fighter season 23 winner brought a clean slate to the UFC, where she posted six back-to-back victories for her title fight. However, a series of injuries punctuated that rhythm, with Weili Zhang successfully ruining her title dreams.
With the credentials both fighters flaunt, it could potentially act as a title eliminator for Dern's next title defense. Stylistically, too, the fight brings a lot to the table, with Tatiana Suarez's fierce wrestling. However, that's also where the BJJ black belt Jandiroba feels the most comfortable, with over 14 submission wins on her resume.
